Has Trump Grown? Has Whitehouse Shrunk?
Providence: State Representative Bobby Nardolillo, himself a candidate for the US Senate in 2018, commented today on the President's recent speech on military policy in Afghanistan. "Mr. Trump looked and sounded Presidential on Monday night." Nardolillo said. "His presentation contained a thoughtful discussion of his own evolution on the War in Afghanistan and an adult explanation of his decision to put the military in charge of ending the fighting, on the battlefield."

Predictably Trump critics who are also his staunch political opponents made statements denouncing the new policy. In many cases these Nay Sayers tried to back up their arguments with facts and statistics. "One voice was curiously silent on the Presidential speech." Candidate Nardolillo pointed out. "Mr. Whitehouse, usually a reliable opponent of the President, remained silent for nearly 24 hours after the Mondaypresentation." Nardolillo contends that the sitting Senator has a responsibility to all Rhode Islanders to explain his positions. "I recognize that some of Mr. Trump's public behavior has been quite different than that of his predecessors." Bobby admitted. "But I analyze this policy as one that I'll support because it proposes to win the fight and shows just how that can happen." Nardolillo, along with all the voters, is waiting for their Senator to be more proactive in his response. "So far Whitehouse has shrunk from his responsibilities on this one." The challenger concluded. "Waiting to hear what others think about an issue is not leading, it's following Senator."
Candidate Trump had broadly hinted that he would withdraw American Forces from this protracted fighting. On Monday he was humble in his explanation that military realities became apparent to him when, as President, he started listening to those actually managing the War. Even though his position underwent an organic change, he did not simply switch to the other extreme in this argument. "He claimed he will not surge huge numbers of troops and dollars onto the battlefield." Nardolillo noted. "Instead he has tasked his Generals with being commanders while he provided specifics on what Victory looks like." Former Trump critics such as Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC) made public statements of support for the President immediately following the speech.
Bobby Nardolillo is a working Rhode Islander, born and bred, who is taking time out to run for the US Senate because of his conviction that government at all levels has failed its taxpaying constituents. He intends to build on his two terms in the General Assembly to bring both legislative experience and new blood to Washington, DC.
